After struggling with his mental health, Jamie* found himself sleeping rough in a tent on the streets.
He was referred to Cambridge Cyrenians, where we found him a place in one of our supported houses. Here, he received support from our mental health service and regular visits from our project workers while working to manage his drinking. Jamie also joined our community allotment project, a safe space to learn new skills, enjoy companionship, and engage in therapeutic horticulture.
Although Jamie faced setbacks when his drinking spiralled, with plenty of support and encouragement from our staff, he entered detox – a pivotal moment that changed everything.
Fast forward to today, Jamie has found a job and has now been sober for over a year. He’s thriving in his work, maintaining a healthy routine, and is soon moving into his own home in the private rented sector. We couldn’t be prouder of his progress!
