Housing is always going to be a challenge in an area like Cambridgeshire with such a big disparity in wealth. As the city and wider region grows, so does the need for truly affordable housing that meets the needs of the people who live and work here.
To address this growing need, Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire District Councils are seeking views on a new draft of the Greater Cambridge Housing Strategy.
The new Strategy will replace the Greater Cambridge Housing Strategy 2019-2023, and will work in parallel with the councils’ Local Plans and Homelessness & Rough Sleeping Strategies.
The Strategy will cover how the councils and their partners will work on housing affordability; plans for new homes; improvements to the quality, safety, and condition of existing homes; and support for people to remain in their homes.
It focusses on four key themes:
Building the right homes in the right places that people need and can afford to live in
Providing high quality, low carbon, energy and water efficient homes
Enabling people to live settled lives
Building strong partnerships
You can download and read the draft of the Strategy from the Cambridge City Council website.
The consultation is open for comments until Sunday 3 March 2024 >
