For over 20 years, Mark’s life has been a series of ups and downs – battling addiction, spending time in prison, sleeping rough, and more recently, a cancer diagnosis. But each time he needed support, Cambridge Cyrenians were there.
He first discovered our services when sleeping rough, being offered a room in our supported housing.
“Being with Cambridge Cyrenians means you’re safe and off the streets. It’s fantastic… everything you could ask for. It’s helped me keep a routine, eat properly, and find some stability,” he says.
Today, Mark is in his own home. He’s cancer-free after his last round of chemotherapy, has significantly reduced his methadone dosage, and life is a lot more stable. He feels hopeful about the future. But he hasn’t done it alone.
Lucine, one of our dedicated project workers from our Older Homeless Service, has been a lifeline, especially following Mark’s cancer diagnosis.
“She still comes round regularly. I can’t get out much now, so she helps with shopping and just being someone to talk to. I couldn’t do it without her.”
From rough sleeping to rebuilding his life, Mark is proof that with the right support, change is possible.
“Cambridge Cyrenians is very good for people like me. They don’t judge; they really understand what we’re going through. They’ve helped me turn my life around.”
