After losing his council flat following a relationship breakdown, Mike* moved into a caravan with his mum. But when she sadly passed away, he was left with nowhere to go.
That’s when Cambridge Cyrenians stepped in. Following a council referral, we offered Mike a place in one of our short-stay supported houses – somewhere safe and stable to rebuild his life.
Today, Mike now lives in one of our long-stay houses, where he’s built friendships, found peace, and has daily support from our Project Workers, volunteers, and our Mental Health Practitioner, Louisa.
At 11am each day, a team member visits to check in, share a chat, and help him stay on top of his health needs, like reminding him to take his insulin.
Music is still at the heart of who Mike is. Once a drummer in a punk band, he now plays his electric drumkit every day in a shed we helped him to source, a place where his passion for music keeps him going.
With Louisa’s ongoing support, Mike has gained coping strategies, confidence, and stability. “She’s kind, knowledgeable, and there for me all the time,” he says.
Most importantly, Mike feels hopeful again: “I am very happy here. Everything is on the up. I’m stabilising and get lots of help from the team.”
Thanks to your support, we can continue to make sure people like Mike have safety, stability, and a fresh start. Help us continue to be there for more people like Mike with a kind donation today.
