Supported housing provides safe homes for people with a range of support needs, helping them to live as independently as possible.
It includes housing for disabled people, homeless people, Armed Forces veterans, elderly people, those needing to leave hospital after physical or mental health difficulties, prison leavers, and people who have experienced domestic abuse.
Supported housing is a national asset that annually saves the government up to £15,500 per person. You can find out more about our supported accommodation on our website.
Despite these benefits, funding for supported housing has faced years of cuts – leaving providers at breaking point. Many schemes across the country have already been forced to close, with many more at risk. Leaving thousands of people stuck without a safe place to call home.
Without properly funded supported housing, hospital backlogs will get even longer, homelessness will rise, and women trying to leave abusive relationships could be left with nowhere to turn. At the Spending Review, the government has the opportunity to invest in the sector and deliver on their ambition to build an NHS fit for the future, reduce homelessness, and tackle violence against women and girls.
This is why Cambridge Cyrenians stands with the National Housing Federation in a call to save our supported housing.
