Today we celebrated the turn of the Wheel of the Year to Imbolc, the Celtic seasonal festival marking the beginning of Spring.
Imbolc is usually celebrated on the first of February and it is the first festival in the Wheel Of The Year after Winter Solstice. It's a time of regrowth, letting go of the past, looking to the future, clearing out the old and making both outer and inner space for new beginnings.
Imbolc is one of the fire festivals and our fun way of marking the date is to write our 'new beginnings' or wishes for the future on wood and to throw them in the fire.
The Snowdrop is the traditional flower of Imbolc. It symbolises the first gift of Spring in the bleakness of Winter. So today, we also planted some snowdrops in our Wheel of The Year Garden.
We planted the snowdrops in the Winter and Spring beds nearest to the Imbolc archway. They look lovely already and they should pop up every year for Imbolc.
We also had to have a bit of a cook up around the fire. We split some bananas and added vegan chocolate, wrapped them in tin foil and put them over the embers.
Imbolc is always one of our favourite celebrations as it feels so positive as we're coming out of the dark months.
Happy Imbolc!
