Summer is always a busy time at the community allotment. But along with all the watering, weeding, maintaining and harvesting crops and holding veg stalls we also find time to have fun!
In July, we held a big volunteering event at the site. We invited the staff team from Allia, at the Future Business Centre in Cambridge to come along to join us build our new Wheel of the Year garden.
We also invited our lovely friend Glenys to run a willow weaving session with the group on the day.
It was such a fantastic day. The Allia volunteers and our group members worked really well together to complete the garden build and finish the willow fence around the potato patch.
In June, we celebrated Summer Solstice with cook up around the fire and watched the sun set on the longest day.
It was our first summer evening event at the community garden and we really enjoyed it. So, watch this space for more.
To celebrate the traditional 'First Summer Harvest' on the week of Lammas, we held a fruit and vegetable stall in Cambridge City Centre.
What an incredibly positive response from the public. Along with raising awareness of our community garden and raising some funds we also had a really great time.
The weather has been up and down this summer but we've still managed to have a fantastic time. Here's to an extended summer and more fun in the coming seasons!
