Last week was National Volunteers Week so I chatted to one of our permanent volunteers, Cerys about her experiences working at our community allotment.
"Out of all of the therapeutic horticulture projects I work on both as a professional and a volunteer, this is the one which most feeds me spiritually (and sometimes literally.) Nothing compares to working side by side alongside good folk, learning and growing together in a true community."
"I see my role as being the person which has the piece of string or the screwdriver which can diffuse a problem, but feel I am increasingly emotionally and socially equipped by my experience here. I benefit from the beautiful natural environment and therapeutic activity as much as any other group member."
"As someone who works between different sites, I felt genuinely emotional when the group made me a named bucket in our shed to store tools in, complete with sign."
"My favourite task here has been weaving/ pruning the willow fedge. Doing something with my hands has always been central to my wellbeing, and I love sharing in that joy with others."
We love sharing the joy with you Cerys. Thanks for all your hard work (and the fun) at our community allotment.
