We all agree, there's nothing like experiencing the whole magical process of seed to harvest to pot.
Last month we started sowing the early crops, including the Broad Beans and they're now looking fantastic in the polytunnel, ready to be planted out on the prepared plot.
We also started the early and tender tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies, peppers and aubergines. These are all small seeds so we sowed them in trays and as they need to be protected from the cold I've kept them at home on my windowsills.
They're all doing really well and we've already 'pricked out' some of the bigger ones (re-potted them into bigger pots.)
Once the risk of frost has past, usually mid-May in Cambridge, we will plant these tender crops into our prepared beds in the polytunnel.
We've even got our visitors involved in sowing with us. Our Cambridge Cyrenians Mental Health Worker, Louisa came to visit us on a very wet day in February and she joined Siobhan to sow the aubergine seeds.
And new Project Worker, Ash came to visit this week. He also got stuck in to the sowing tasks.
Our veg beds are planned with a rotational system so we have been redrawing plans for this year in preparation of all our seedlings going out for the growing season.
We're really looking forward to sampling our tasty veg but in the meantime we will be enjoying the sowing, pricking out, planting out, maintenance, watering etc etc. Watch this space....
