Forget Rainy Day... we're having a Rainy May!
But as Shane says "Rain never stops play!" We'll always find jobs to do at the Community Gardens even if it's pouring down like today.
And there's plenty of undercover work areas to shelter from a downpour.
As the climate crisis enfolds the changing weather patterns are affecting different parts of the world in different ways. Here in the UK we're seeing more extreme weather conditions. This rain may last all month! Then, like last year, we could have a long spell of near drought! So rain collection will become more and more essential.
We have rain collection systems on all of our structures at the Community Garden. Some are traditional water butts like the ones we have on the bike shed and the Beekeeping shed.
And recycled council troughs like this one on The Old Tea Shed.
We also have some less traditional rain water collectors like this old bath that Shane attached to the back of the Wood Store.
And on several of our sheds we have constructed rain collection tier systems. The rain drains from the guttering down into a water butt which, once it's full then drains into a lower trough. On the Old Barn we even have a third tier trough. So, we can collect a lot of rain water for our plants during wet season ready for the coming dry season.
So, we don't mind a bit of rain but let's hope we do get a bit of a dry season this summer :-)
