Allotment

Compost Donations!

Local business owner, Robin Sandring and his supplier Home Hardware kindly offered to donate all their split bags of compost to our community garden. So, a few of us went over to North Cambridge to visit Robin's shop, Cam Home and Garden on Milton Road today to pick them up.

Cam Home and Garden is the 'Aladdin's Cave' of Chesterton, selling plants and garden tools/ equipment; DIY equipment; home and kitchen ware; and even has a large homebrew section.

Home Hardware, which supplies Robin with a lot of the houseware and gardening stock had a big clear out in their warehouse and yard and kindly delivered three pallets of unsaleable compost bags for us.

The pallets had a mixture of growing media bags on them including soil improver, growbags, top soil, farmyard manure and ericaceous/ multi-purpose composts.

We will use the top soil, manure and soil improver in addition to our own compost/ leaf mould that we have already added on our large vegetable plots. And the growbags and composts will be added to the polytunnel beds to add further nutrition to the soil ready for our tomatoes and cucumbers to be planted once the risk of frost has passed.

Thanks so much to Robin at Cam Home and Garden and Michael at Home Hardware for the kind donation.
