Cambridge Community Pottery
Cambridge Cyrenians pottery is part of Cambridge Community Workshop and is providing opportunities for people who are homeless or vulnerably housed to develop employability skills. The workshop is producing pottery made by residents of local hostels for the homeless. It is overseen by an experienced potter and hopes to sell its wares through various outlets, including this website.
Earlier in the year the group were producing planters as part of the Eden Projects garden at Chelsea in May this year.
Participants are taken through all the stages of the production process to enable them to develop a wide range of skills, t
hrough producing and firing ceramics to marketing the final product.
The project aims to:
- Equip people with the skills necessary to interact successfully both in work and non-work settings – and thereby the chances of ending their social exclusion
- Help generate a work ethic

- Tackle boredom and widen social networks – thereby helping individuals to leave behind negative past behaviours and peer influences
- Improve the ability to access and make use of services – thereby increasing independence and ensuring that wider needs are more likely to be met
- Improve mental and physical health, and reduce substance misuse and offending.
